30 years since it’s last Formula One Grand Prix, we “broke in” to Kyalami Circuit to do the first hot lap with a modern Formula 1 car, featuring legendary driver David Coulthard, Oracle Red Bull Racing and a surprise cameo from Red Bull’s first official Spinning athlete. This was a statement piece to promote bringing back an official Formula 1 race to the African continent, and to highlight the Red Bull Showrun event that took place in Sandton, Johannesburg. We also wanted to create content that other publications and broadcasters would use when referring to F1 coming back to Africa, thereby associating Red Bull very closely with the positive sentiment around Kyalami hosting an F1 race in the future.
